I have been in education for 20 years. That’s a hard concept for me to believe: 20 years! That’s long enough to see education trends come and go. Yet, the one thing remaining constant is best practice trends. How kids learn best is the one constant, though new research and technology advances reveal better and new ways all the time. I believe that if we keep this in the forefront of our teaching and policy decisions, we can continually hone our craft to move our teaching into the excellence category.
I’ve taught in public and private schools; taught in classrooms ranging from Kindergarten through sixth grade; became a site-based literacy leader as a reading specialist and literacy coach. My learning and “honing of my craft”, as I like to call it, is far from done. I’m on a continuous journey reading current education research, searching for new educational trends, and marveling at new ed-tech options that will transform how we teach in the coming years. I hope you’ll come on this journey with me as I explore, try, probably fail, as well as succeed; to apply what I know and what I’ve learned is best for kids so we can always move forward as we “hone our craft” together.
I live in the Seattle area with my husband, kids, our two dogs and two cats! Our life is crazy-busy between working, carpooling to gymnastics and soccer, and trying to steal away to our favorite place, Glacier National Park and Whitefish, Montana whenever we can. I’m addicted to fiction, I love to bake cupcakes and I craft so hard I sweat glitter!
